We carried out the Piura mango cluster initiative between October 2021 and May 2022 and now the cluster association is in the conformation phase in order to execute the 3-year action plan.

In order to strengthen the competitiveness of the mango agro-export sector in Piura, Cluster Consulting is working on the project to Strengthen the Mango Agro-export Cluster in Piura with various key players belonging to the sector in the region.

The project began the first week of October, together with the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (#APEM).

The second week the course on clusters and competitiveness was held for a group of guests related to the initiative. In the course, they learned in a theoretical and practical way about cluster initiatives, their application to reality and their impact on the competitiveness of a sector. See news.

Likewise, in the third week, visits and interviews were carried out with key actors in the sector in Piura as part of the project's diagnostic phase.

On November 11, 2021, Carlos Tarrasón made the first public presentation of the project “Strengthening the Agro-export Cluster of Mango de Piura”, within the framework of the XX International Congress of Peruvian Mango organized by APEM. The presentation was attended by about 100 representatives from different companies and institutions. In this, the project was presented to the public, the characterization and challenges of the cluster were shown, an analysis of the sector in Peru and the world was presented, the existing supply and demand trends were exposed and the initial approximation of the segments of existing business.existentes. In the next phase, the strategic vision for the cluster was defined and for this purpose interviews were carried out in the main world markets and a reference trip was made to the Netherlands and Spain. The learning from these activities was discussed and presented in the second public presentation on February 3, 2022 in Piura, where the proposed strategic vision was validated. The proposed vision was to position itself in the ripe mango segment, competing based on two main variables: quality and sustainability.

After the strategic vision was validated, working groups were created for four areas and in this way the action plan and the governance system were built in a participatory manner. The results of the last phase were presented on April 7 in Piura. The cluster will be developing actions to boost the cluster, integrated production with quality and sustainability, post-harvest and logistics, and positioning and promotion.
